Is Music Good Or Bad For Studying

By Jim Thorpe

When it comes to school and success, everything is very individual, and most rules cannot be applied straight across the board. Each individual has their own way of learning and thinking, and while a quiet, empty room may work for some people, the same room may be completely ineffective for another.

As you embark on your own college experience, remember that your personal study habits may differ from your friends, classmates, and roommates. As you begin to study in college, try many different methods of studying so you can find which ones are most effective for you. Some methods may work better in different situations, and some things may not work for you at all.

Find out what kind of procrastinator you are There are several different types. There are the ones that do all of the things that are low on the priority list just because they are there and they are easy.

Second, take five or ten minutes a day to review the previous day's notes, and any other notes you have taken during the semester. This habitual renewing of material is more effective at retaining information than any midnight cram session.

If you believe that you cannot do well in a particular subject, or class, it may just be that you have not found your own way of learning yet.

Read and annotate your required reading. It is tempting not write in your text books because you wish to sell back to the books store for the highest price possible. But just like taking notes on a lecture in class, you are more likely to remember what you read when you highlight and annotate your textbooks with your thoughts and insights. If marking up your textbooks really is not an option, you can always use sticky notes, write on them and remove them at the end of the end of the semester.

Another effective study tip is to create note cards. After each class write a new terms or ideas on a note card and define them. Throughout the course of the semester keep adding to this pile of note cards.

For instance, you could treat yourself to a weekend out in the mountains once you finish that looming project, or take yourself out to eat once you lose that flab. Just make sure it isn't going to put it back on!

Understand the Consequences If you know what will happen if you procrastinate, you may be less likely to do it. It is a good idea to look into the future and have a clear picture of the possible ramifications so that you are more motivated to get things done quickly.

By choosing to study this way you will remember more information, and for longer-hopefully for the rest of your life. Also how are you supposed to apply the knowledge you gained from your accounting or business administration degree to your career if you cannot remember it. Learning to study is more than learning how to pass and exam but a habit for life-long education.
